WELCOME!
Patricia Auspos is a writer and biographer.
A graduate of Barnard College, she earned a Ph.D. in Modern British History from Columbia University and taught at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. She researched and wrote about social policy issues and programs as a staff member at MDRC and the Aspen Institute Roundtable on Community Change, and as an independent consultant. Breaking Conventions: Five Couples in Search of Marriage-Career Balance at the Turn of the Nineteenth Century is her first book. She lives in Jackson Heights, New York City. Pat is a member of the Women Writing Women's Lives (WWWL) Seminar, where she sits on the steering committee. She is also a member of the Biographers International Organization and the Author's Guild.
As a child, Pat was inspired by reading biographies of path-breaking women achievers. As a working woman, she grew interested in the challenges women face in the workplace. As a wife and mother, she is eager to understand how women balance domestic and work roles. All these interests came together in researching and writing Breaking Conventions.
Pat's current projects include writing about other couples who pioneered dual-career marriages in the nineteenth century and exploring the friendships and connections among an early generation of women doctors in America and Britain.
